The IT service and e-commerce company adds extensive capacity to its Neckarsulm logistics building in the wake of its record year. The expansion also involves a new office building for 400 additional employees.
Neckarsulm, 22 February 2011 — Bechtle AG expands its headquarters in Neckarsulm with an additional 14,750 sqm. Following 2010, the best year in its history with a dramatic increase in both revenue and earnings, the IT company will add 8,250 sqm to its logistics building, and another 6,500 sqm in the form of a new office building. Bechtle first moved into its headquarters at Bechtle Platz 1 in 2004 with then 450 employees; a first expansion was built in 2008. Today, the IT service provider and trading company employs 870 people in Neckarsulm alone, and a total of 4,800 people across Europe.
The construction of the new logistics building will commence in March and is scheduled to be completed in September 2011. This will give Bechtle a total of 23,650 sqm of warehouse space. “The growing number of large-scale projects and the general momentum of our business has spurred the decision to make this investment in our logistics facilities. And in particular, so that we can continue to guarantee 24-hour delivery times in the future”, explains Dr. Thomas Olemotz, CEO of Bechtle AG. Against the backdrop of this expansion, the company will also substantially increase efficiency with intelligent, IT-driven logistics processes, implementing a new warehousing system and innovative goods handling. “Our logistics concept is among the most efficient in Europe. The new system will confirm and strengthen this position”, says Dr. Thomas Olemotz.
Construction of the new office building at Bechtle Platz 1 is expected to begin as early as this autumn. The 4-storey building will be connected to the existing headquarters and will offer an additional 6,500 sqm for a total of 26,500 sqm of office space.
“The remaining capacity of our existing building offers room for approximately 120 new employees. According to current plans, we will reach the limit by 2012. That’s why we have decided to add capacity now. All signs point to further growth for Bechtle. With our Vision 2020 in mind, which involves a total of 10,000 Bechtle employees worldwide, we will also significantly increase the workforce at our company headquarters”, says Dr. Thomas Olemotz. The new office building will allow Bechtle to employ an additional 400 employees at Bechtle Platz 1.
“The expansion will blend in perfectly with the current building, which is already a very impressive, state-of-the art construction. It is important to us that we can provide our current and future employees with an attractive work environment”, the CEO adds. This includes a much bigger staff restaurant which will be located in the atrium of the new building.
