Daniel Moosbauer
Daniel, what does an IT System Engineer Security actually do?

We’re specialists in developing innovative security solutions and integrating them into our customers’ IT systems and networks. The main aim is to protect the IT infrastructure from potential security risks and the data from unauthorised access.

How do you approach a new customer project?

The first steps are to understand what the customer needs and take a look at their IT security infrastructure. As soon as I’ve done that, my colleagues and I develop a customised security concept and help the customer integrate and test the new solutions.

Why the testing phase?

This way, I have the opportunity to review the security concept in a controlled environment to prevent potential complications later on down the road. Once testing has been successfully completed, I hold a workshop with the customer in which I hand over all documentation and we work together to find the perfect solution for operating the new structures.

It’s a great feeling to make the digital world a little bit safer every day.

What are some of the challenges you come up against?

Of course, unexpected security incidents can always occur, requiring me to act quickly and rearrange my daily schedule. That’s why it is so important that my projects are well-structured and easy to prioritise.

Quite challenging…

Yes, absolutely. IT security is a very dynamic area. Another challenge is certainly staying up to date. That’s why I’m in regular contact with the 400+ Bechtle Security Community experts to talk about the latest developments and solutions. It’s reassuring to know I can always fall back on this community’s extensive knowledge when I’m stumped.

What else do you do to grow professionally?

I actually invest the time in taking part in our vendor partners’ training courses and certification programmes. The Bechtle Academy and Learning Campus offer a whole host of seminars to help me get to the next level—personally and professionally. For me though, the most valuable lessons come from hand-on experience and talking with colleagues. Bechtle has given me the freedom to try out new things, share my ideas and learn on the job. That I can continue to develop myself at Bechtle was not initially clear to me, but I find it really great.

What more general skills are particularly important for your job?

It’s crucial to have in-depth knowledge of technology, as I have to be able to understand and explain technical concepts. Determination and perseverance are also essential when it comes to handling security incidents.

What motivates you?

The ability to ensure security! I’m constantly on the look out for ways to optimise our networked world and make it that little bit safer every day.

What do you like most about Bechtle?

Definitely the spirit. Whenever I’m asked if we can do something, I always feel confident in saying yes. After all, I know I can turn to the Security Community for their support. I also greatly appreciate the flexibility I have here. I find the flexibility of working from home or the office beneficial. But since we moved into new premises in Unterschleißheim, I prefer to be at the office.
