Challenge
The successful replacement of 600 devices.
The challenge was to replace all 600 client end devices—some 420 mobile devices and 180 all-in-one PCs—at all of the Graz University of Music and Performing Arts’ 18 locations with new Dell Technologies devices between October and November. Bechtle was responsible for the procurement, configuration and installation of the operating system (Windows 11), as well as for the removal of the old hardware and the delivery of the new. Bechtle installed, set up and commissioned the deployment service required in close collaboration with the University.
Solution
With everything from a single source, the approach made economic and organisational sense for the Central IT Service (ZID) team and a Bechtle team, specially put together for the project, ensured that everything ran smoothly from start to finish.
Implementation and rollout |

The plan for replacing the hardware and installing the software was developed according to exact customer requirements. The rollout phase was particularly crucial as it needed to align with the academic calendar so as not to disrupt teaching. By configuring the devices in advance at its own installation centre in Graz and providing on-site support, Bechtle ensured the smooth implementation of the selected Dell Technologies solutions, which are greatly appreciated by teachers and students alike, a fact underscored by their consistently positive feedback. |
Sustainability and efficiency |

Particular care was taken to ensure that the new systems are energy-efficient and durable. The new devices come with Dell Technologies software-backed battery management to significantly boost operating time, wherever possible, packaging materials were reduced or left out, and when the devices reached the end of their life, Bechtle will refurbish them so that they can be passed on to schools. |
Business benefits |
|
The new IT environment promotes creativity, simplifies admin and gives the university tougher protection, greater system availability and supports the more efficient use of resources. Both partners were able to focus on what they are best at, with the ZID team ensuring user satisfaction and Bechtle delivering professional hardware and services. |
