Public administration and multi-cloud computing.

How to make it work in practice.

It's now time for public administration to move to the cloud. Some legal requirements, such as the OZG (Online Access Act) and the Data Governance Act, are paving the way for the cloud. However, public authorities are still hesitant when it comes to practical implementation. According to the industry compass published by Sopra Steria and the F.A.Z. Institute, around half of the administrations surveyed do not feel sufficiently prepared for the integration of cloud solutions. This is despite the fact that the IT strategy of the ITZBund (Federal IT Service Center) is cloud-first and cloud computing offers numerous advantages, such as better scalability, reliability, and increased digital resilience.

Pathways to the cloud.

Cloud solutions offer public administration a wide range of benefits, yet many authorities are still slow to adopt them—but why? One of the main concerns is information security and data protection. Is data secure in the event of a cyberattack? Can authorities retain control over sensitive information when using non-European cloud providers? Another issue is the complexity of cloud infrastructure and who should be responsible for operating it. And last but not least, authorities must determine which cloud strategy best meets their specific needs. The simple answer to all these issues is external multi-cloud management that covers everything from expert consulting to full-scale operations.

Master the multi-cloud. Maximise the benefits.

When choosing the cloud model that best meets specific needs, public authorities can opt for a private cloud, public cloud, community cloud, hybrid cloud, or a multi-cloud approach. The latter combines various cloud infrastructures and therefore offers a wide range of benefits.

What is a multi-cloud?

With this model, an institution uses multiple cloud infrastructures of the same type in parallel, for example, several public clouds from different external providers, each tailored to specific workloads. Hybrid and multi-clouds models are, however, not mutually exclusive, but complement each other.
