VMware Cloud Foundation –
Simplified Licensing

In this fast paced world of technology, Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware stands out as a pivotal moment in recent times as it brings about changes in existing virtualisation and cloud computing markets.

What’s changed?

Portfolio simplification

2 Primary Offerings:

  • VMware Cloud Foundation
  • VMware vSphere Foundation

Transition to subscription

Subscription only:

  • Going forward, investment will be in subscription offers only.
  • The perpetual and the subscriptions will continue to work together as both are disconnected

End of Sale:

  • Perpetual licenses
  • Support and Subscription (SnS) renewals for perpetual offers

Pricing

Billing Models:

  • Going forward, customers will be able to pay yearly for multiyear commits

Specific end dates

  • Broadcom still allows for specific flexible end dates, however the minimum term is 1 year.

Bundles

  • Broadcom now price in bundles, each including a vCenter.

Navigating Licensing and Pricing Transformations

A pivotal aspect of the acquisition is the shift in VMware’s licensing model under Broadcom. Moving away from the previous, points-based Partner Connect program, Broadcom introduced a streamlined licensing approach through its VMware White Label Program. This new model simplifies licensing to a single SKU - the VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF)

Furthermore, the pricing structure is shifting from a multifaceted calculation method to a more straightforward, SKU-based pricing model which aums to provide more value for customers from businesses of all sizes.

Bechtle, as a pinnacle partner of VMware by Broadcom has a specialised and dedicated team that will help you transition from pre-sales to post-sales, covering every step along this journey.

VCF Division Packaging

The main application areas for VMware Cloud Foundation.

The key application areas for VMware Cloud Foundation are cloud infrastructure, IT automation, hybrid cloud, end-to-end security and virtual desktops.

And best of all, with Cloud Foundation, infrastructure can be easily, automatically, and reliably provisioned in the form of workload domains. And this means no server installation, no storage and network configurations, and also the integration of management tools can be done away with.

Thanks to automation, infrastructures can be deployed in hours rather than weeks.

How can VMware Cloud Foundation software be integrated?

There are three ways to do this:

  • Software deployment to vSAN ReadyNodes (Cisco, Dell EMC, Fujitsu, Hitachi Vantara, HPE, Lenovo and QCT) and network switches
  • As an integrated system that can be pre-installed via the following original equipment manufacturers: Dell EMC, Fujitsu, Hitachi Vantara and QCT
  • As a public cloud service, such as in the VMware Cloud on AWS or via VMware Cloud providers such as IBM Cloud, Rackspace, Fujitsu, CenturyLink, OVH and NTT
